The dignity over freedom of mockery!

So again they mock, make fun, ridicule millions of people's belief, culture, traditions and few of us silently protest with ethical and legal way. And, still so called celebrities have issue with our way of protest. We are called communal and regressive for just raising concerns for own faith. We have been hounded, killed, destroyed repeatedly by all kinds of foreigners starting from 712 A.D. Millions of native Indians(Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs) have been killed over the period and it's documented well in the history. And still today we are being called bigoted for defending my own faith. Can't a person with multiple injuries even defend own self? What do we do?

We need an honest conversation on two points.

1. Belief & dignity

2. Freedom of mockery through democratic freedom of expression

Let me start with my own story; Back in 2007/8, fresh out of engineering and when Narendra Modi didn't even complete his 2nd term as a Gujarat CM, I used to feel offended when people made fun of my and may be crores of other people's belief through the means of entertainment but I never gave too much of thought to it. I was raised in the middle class family of 90s. My mother was religiously Hindu who believed in murti puja and father was staunch atheist who never believed in any religious customs. Mummy used to do puja every morning and sometimes in evening and papa never did until 1999. By the time I became mature enough to understand logical aspects of all these, I saw two opposite views for same thing. That thing was BELIEF.

Mummy believed in murti puja and papa believed only in logical reasoning. Papa had a strong opinion about his beliefs. He even used to make fun of religious customs but that was rarely. Papa read and heard many of Osho Rajnish's discourses because he explained everything thru logical reasoning. Osho attracted many young people like my father at that time throughout the world. So I was raised with such wonderful environment of mixed beliefs. Broadly it was bhakti and gyaan. Somehow I never rejected any of them in my mind. May be, I kept myself open for both paths. Moving ahead from my school days to college days, we came in contact with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar's organization The Art of Living. Something beautiful happened due to acceptability of wholesome idea of Hinduism within the organization. My father attended basic course on Pranayam, Sudarshan Kriya and then an advance meditation course. My mother obviously, being a hindu believer, followed the suit. Both of them found place for their beliefs at the same place. Both opened up for each other's belief system. Papa understood the importance of bhakti, puja and daily rituals. Mummy understood the importance of gyaan, understanding essence of ancient hindu texts. And my sister and I followed them later by doing multiple courses and serving needy people through the AOL. Both of us found all practices so interesting and we both tried to learn and understand this amazing gyaan written and preserved by ancients of this amazing hindu civilisation. This is the importance of dignity and respect!

I narrated the story of my home to tell you that dignity is as important as freedom of expression. I really don't think mockery is an expression but it is bullying. Unfortunately, this doesn't fit in modern definition of expression and democratic rights. If papa would have made good fun of bhakti or mumma made fun of the sankhya, we could have never progressed from that point. Yes, we might have had fun for few moments. But, that would be useless in individual's progress or widening of our thought process. Making continuous fun or ridiculing of anyone's belief doesn't solve ANY PURPOSE but yes, its a freedom of expression in democracy! By constant bombarding on anyone's belief from all different sources, by all different people, from all different channels have made youth of this generation develop an irritation to this wonderful space of ideas, own religion, own culture, own profound knowledge, own ancestors. Today's youth would never even think to plunge themselves in reading Bhagwad Gita or Ashtavakra Gita or Yoga Vasistha or stories of Mirabai or Narsinh Mehta or Vivekanand and 1000s of more philosophers India had. Why? We are closing the brains of millions of young people from all of these just in the name of freedom of expression!

What a terrible loss!

Same time we never ridicule science and scientists. We never ridicule the modern science even though we don't understand it at all in detail. May be because collectively we think that's one of the necessity to progress in this world. If we don't know, we just leave. And, don't we have enough topics or characters or subjects around the world to ridicule in the name of fun? What purpose do we solve by making such mockery? We would have fun and laugh for few minutes on the expense of closing doors for millions of young from exploring a well researched, experienced by many, 1000s of years old philosophy, techniques and knowledge! It's a science, developed by many scientists(rishis) over thousands of years. Fun is good but continues mockery of peaceful, tolerant, accommodative, progressive culture is not good! We have to decide what do we want our children to learn?

Crux is;

Along with democratic freedom of expression, we need to make sure that we don't mock. In a democracy, freedom to do anything mustn't mean that you keep ridiculing your own culture by all the possible means. If few people who can't understand this simple logic or they have their own philosophy of mocking other's beliefs, law must protect land's own culture, philosophy, techniques, traditions and beliefs of lacs of people! We are wasting whole lifetime of so many young minds for few minutes of fun. Let the youth of this generation take plunge in the infinite universe of knowledge offered by ancient rishis and universities!

Let there be freedom to feel dignified!

The Era of Provocation

Since 26th May 2014, something has changed in India which has triggered "The Era of Provocation".

Every other intellectual, liberal, secular wants to be revolutionary and poke in eye of Hindus - silent majority of India. The only motive behind this (as I see) is to instigate some of aggressive, sensitive and stupid Hindus, use them and their reactions to brand whole majority as violent and communal. And to their surprise they have failed miserably in their plans. 2 years and you see most of Indian media is talking about how intolerant as society we are and how backward thinking we are! They talk about "Freedom Of Expression" and "alternate reading" but they can't even hear Indian spiritual leader's criticism on selection process of one of the most prestigious award on earth. They twists actual story and present against public to gain sympathy for small girl and anger for spiritual leader. And few celebrities who doesn't have iota of information on what this one small man from middle class tamil family has achieved in his 40 years of career. They can't even think or dream about his achievements. And mind here, these are not the achievements for his profit but for the people around us.

But I am "funny bones", I am celebrity, I have over 1 million followers, I don't give damn about being disrespectful to one of the most hardworking selfless person on this earth!!!

Where has our sensitivity gone? Why can't We be more responsible when uttering rubbish without iota of information! Or it has just come down to the level where only TRP matters?
You are the chosen ones from population of 1.25 billion. You have millions looking at you as idol. You are all in for small girl who is brave and stands up for her principles but you don't even care to learn what one of your very own countryman has done for your country and world?

This is utter disgraceful. I feel hurt and shocked that someone can be so irresponsible. We as a society will fail when we would blindly follow so called intelligent and would not respect and acknowledge great saint of our lifetime.

Face... Embrace... Accept...

Life is chain of events!
Some pleasant and some unpleasant... We happily accepts pleasant ones but always try to avoid unpleasant ones. We need to realise that we are just an actor through all the events. Each moment will pass and emotions attached to those moments will also pass. What stays untouched is self. Try to watch the moments passing by each event. More you try to avoid, more you drown into it.

Face it, embrace it, accept it!
Don't try to run away or defend yourself. Just watch yourself and let the events unfold in front of you.

Meditate!

Watch yourself!

Have you ever watched yourself?
Not in those recorded videos of course... but really have you watched your thoughts?
Or have you even watched your actions or reactions?
Sometimes yes, may be!
But when?
When you complete that action(most of the time its reaction)!

How many times you must have fought with your siblings or parents or friends or any random person!

How many times you must have felt angry, sad, guilty, happy, excited!
From all these moments you would have remembered happy moments and missed them like anything. You would also have remembered sad moments and must have said to yourself that it could have been better if that incident(remember that was your reaction) wouldn't have happened.

So we do watch our actions but that's much much later when you are helpless weak. What if you narrow this gap of acting and watching?

You act and same time you watch too!
And most powerful part of this is, you have not completed your action and so you can still manage the things which could end up in guilt or anger or sad moment of your life! Now that makes you really a very powerful person! You have your actions in your hand! You are  truly independent from other's action...

So it's actually watch and act, and not act and watch!

Watch yourself! It's interesting game! ;)

Infinite!

We live in a world where everything is bound by boundaries. Take anything for instance and it has to have boundary. Think about anything in your day to day routine i.e. your home furniture or vehicle, or ornaments or your body or roads or cities or countries and even planets or stars. Everything has its own boundary and that is how we perceive and define the whole world. Our mind or intellect understands things only and only by boundaries but then we ignore the bigger fact that all these things are inside something which we call as Universe which is actually boundary-less i.e. infinite!

As per our understanding anything which is infinite can't exist in real world! This should lead us to simple question which is; is this universe not real? And If this universe is not real then how can things inside it be real?

YOU and Your SELF!

It all depends upon who shouts louder, YOU or Your SELF! And only when your SELF is realized, it can speak over YOU.
For that, YOU only have to go inside and find your SELF. That can happen if YOU meditate and be in presence of the Master - A Guru.
Let your SELF shout out loud and thus Your SELF will always be more powerful than YOU and YOU will realize the ultimate TRUTH!

Take it as it comes

"Take it as it comes"

We might hear this quote so many times. For all of us it is one of so many inspiring quotes. When in day-to-day life; we face lot of obstacles and feel not so confident about coming events or problems in the life, it lifts one's self-confidence.

“Take it as it comes” gives immense confidence to us and asks us to drop all worries surrounding that event or problem. Forget what may come or what may not come, and let us see what comes our way. But we never try to see what it actually does! It takes your mind from future to present moment and so fear of future to freedom of present. Have we ever thought of present moment? What is present moment?

Present moment is this, this, this, this….. It is passing by and very close to you but still far from you because of perception -“mithya” created by your own mind. We never stay in this moment for continues period. It is so close to you that you never realize. It is very basic mind game, it longs and desires for something and everything, which is not with you and always takes you away from present. It asks you to run after something and so you always forget your “SELF”.

Sometimes it takes you to sorrow, guilt feeling from past or other time it takes you to worries and fear of future. Present is always neglected. Whereas present is so much powerful, it gives you all positive and takes away guilt, sorrow, fear, lust and what not. It makes you immensely strong. In present you are free from all worries. You are not servant of your mind. In fact there is no mind! And that is ultimate pleasure and truth.

Sri Sri Ravishankar says, “Live in present moment!” It means you realize your “SELF”. It is not possible for anyone to start living in present for continues period. It needs a practice of meditation and it is indeed possible and many have done it and many are doing it.

Close your eyes everyday for few minutes and take few deep breaths and observe your mind. There are some online meditations available. You can follow below guided meditation.

So let's start living in present and "Take it as it comes"!
Happy Living! :)

The lost shine of Hinduism

"The ignorant are fanatically religious and the intelligent are fashionably atheist. The wise are obviously spiritual" - Sri Sri Ravishankar

How true is this statement! Today prejudice prevails towards the Hinduism, spiritual gurus, pundits, ancient rituals. Particularly this is the case with the youth of India. Today's youth don't think twice before blaming whole religion and all the Gurus or even God for all wrongdoing prevails in the religion and they also feel that they are intelligent in doing so, whereas most elders actually believe each and everything in the name of God.

I am not denying that there are fake pundits and gurus exist in India. I am just saying because of few fake people in religion, you cannot blame that religion itself is fake or each and everything in Hinduism is fake and stop practicing invaluable vast knowledge it has given to the world!

There is lot of wrong things happening all over the world. We don't blame whole world for that. We don't blame our Muslim friend because of thousands of terrorists who practice Islam around the world. Then how come that logic does not apply here? If you visit some fake doctor and he/she gives you wrong medication. Once you come to know about the truth, will you blame medical industry or the fake doctor? I know you have very clear answer in your mind. It is the doctor who is to be blamed. When it comes to spiritual guru, people are so casual to say for each and every spiritual guru that, "Abhi iski bi bari ayegi".

It is not only fake pundits are to be blamed for this mess up. Human mind sees what people around us wants it to see. We perceived the "concept" which actually does not exist. Now the "concept" here is, "Hinduism is bunch of superstitions and meaningless rituals and thus all spiritual gurus or pundits are thieves and fake!” There is a definite role of TV media in changing people's way of looking at something. Is it the fact that all Hindu gurus have done all wrong? The answer is NO; they have done much more good for the society then what is being projected by media. All flashy and insensitive news about wrong doings of some random fake gurus are all over the news. The prime time coverage media gives to spread negative things is nowhere in comparison to positive news. Doesn't it affect the mentality of viewers and the society? Doesn't it change your way of looking at the religion or Guru? If this is media's responsibility which spreads only negative impression, whose responsibility is to spread positive? I am sure media is not going to take much interest in something which is good. I read somewhere, "Don't be a football of other's opinion!". It is very much relevant here. One has to experience by himself/herself before coming to any decision. It doesn't take too long to decide using your intellect. This negative atmosphere has completely taken away bright shine of Hinduism and its practices. Today it takes long time to make people understand that meditation/yoga/spiritual knowledge is necessary in today's hectic world. To live life happier way, we have to give some respect and place to this practices in our life.

In ancient times, the King use to include spiritual gurus in their cabinet and every child use to get spiritual education and everyone use to practice mediation, yoga. Basically everyone use to spend a small time from their daily routine for "Dharma". We need to bring back right balance in the life. Today we are living in the world where almost every minute, some serious crime is taking place. We definitely need this to be controlled by strict laws, but simultaneously we need to think and work on, how can we make people more sensitive and aware, to avoid them from indulging in heinous crime? There is no other way but to make people practice Dharma in routine life. We have to establish the lost paradigm of Hinduism, the respect towards the gurus, the real essence of Hinduism.

We need to stop this cheap movement of shaming and defaming India's one of the greatest gift to mankind - The Hinduism. It is just way of living life and not only religion.

God Particle and Brahman

God Particle - "Higgs Boson"
Recently CERN scientists found the most important particle of standard model of particle physics and named it after British physicist Peter Higgs
According to findings after the years of research, this is the particle, which defines mass of anything and everything present in this universe. So whatever things are present in this universe, at the core of all these things is Higgs boson and that is why, it is often called as “God Particle”.

I was watching news about this and one of the Hindi news channels showed a Sage saying, “Chalo acha hai, ab ja ke science ne bi maan liya, har kan kan me bhagwan hai, hum to sadiyyon se kehte aa rahe hai, ab science ne sabit bi kar diya!” That time I did not think much about that, and just laughed out. Then today I was reading about ‘God particle’ on the Internet and suddenly realized doesn’t it sound similar to what ancient Rishimunis said thousands of years ago about Brahman?

There is a holy book of ‘Yoga Vasistha’. This book is one of the most important books of the Hindu philosophy called “Advaita Vendata” and this is the only book I read from lot of Hindu scriptures. There is English translation available by SwamiVenkatesananda.
I read one sloka from that book as follows:

astiha niyatir brahmi cic chakttih spandarupini
avasya bhavitavyaika satta sakala kalpaga (60/8)

Swamiji translates it as below.
In this verse, Lord Rama is asking to Vasistha about god.

Vasistha replies,
“There does exist, O Rama, the power or energy of the infinite consciousness which is in motion all the time; that alone is the reality of all inevitable futuristic events, for it penetrates all the epochs in time.
It is by that power that the nature of every object in the universe is ordained.
That power (cit sakti) is also known as Mahasatta (the great existence), Mahaciti (the great intelligence), Mahasakti (the great power), Mahadrsti (the great vision), Mahakriya (the great doer or doing), Mahodbhava (the great becoming), Mahaspanda (the great vibration).
It is this power that endows every thing with its characteristic quality.
But this power is not different from or independent of the absolute Brahman: it is as real as a pie in the sky.

So it says, there is a power, which is not different from Brahman and which exists in each and every object in this universe and that is only responsible for the nature of all objects. Doesn’t it absolutely just as what scientist found about Higgs Boson? Yes, ‘Brahman’ is the word in Hindu scriptures used for modern physic’s ‘Higgs Boson’.

There is sloka in Chhāndogya Upanishad. It says,

“sarvam khalv idam brahma”

It means: "All this that we see in the world is Brahman".

Another one in 'Mandukya Upanishad

 सर्वं ह्येतद् ब्रह्मायमात्मा ब्रह्म सोयमात्मा चतुष्पात्

It means: “All indeed in this universe is this Brahman; He is Atman; He has four steps/quarters.”

There are some more slokas in the Rig Veda. I came to know about this when I started searching on the Internet about relation of modern physics and spirituality. His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar mentioned about these slokas in one of the talk recently. In the Rig Veda, there is a Sukta called Nasadiya Sukta, in the 10th Mandala, 129th Adhyaya, there, around seven verses are written.

Nasadasinno sadasittadanim nasidrajo no vyom paro yat
Kimavarivah kuha kasya sharmannambhah kimasid gahanam gabhiram

Its brief meaning is; the space of pure consciousness or energy, which here and there appears to have consolidated and appears to be matter. What appears to be matter is really not matter, it is all one energy, and that one field is called Brahman, and that is what everybody is, that is what everything is.

You can find detailed meaning of this on Art Of Living site.

All these slokas indicate that ancient Rishimunis were already aware about the concepts of modern science.

And there are many more mention of Brahman in the Hindu Scriptures and philosophy of Advaita Vedanta. All these explain about Brahman, responsible for nature of everything exists in this universe and beyond this universe. As lord Shri Krishna said in the Hindu religion's holy book the Gita, Brahman is omnipresent and omnipotent in nature. Shri Krishna uses the word ‘Servam’, which includes both living and nonliving objects.

It is just we need to understand the concept of Brahman mentioned in the Hindu scriptures and listen to what Rishimunis said, with open mind as we listen to scientists and understand science. People are happy and can blindly believe what Modern Science says, but when it comes to Spirituality or Religion, people closes their door of ears and mind! People who talk about broad mentality is first to become narrow minded when it comes to Spirituality. They think all these are man made stories and so myths. Have they ever tried to understand what it actually means?

Hope people show acceptance to these great Hindu scriptures and philosophy and understands the concept of Brahman and relation to God Particle.

Meaning of life

20th November 2011. This was my regular weekend like every other weekend so far during my UK stay. I was travelling back to my home in Staines by crowded tube. I have my best buddies staying in London, and I visit them almost every weekend. As usual I was listening Hindi songs from my favorite collection, and reading one of the best spiritual scripture on the earth, “Yoga Vasistha”. I have been reading this book from long and trying to complete this book from long time too :). But somehow I could not complete it so far.

Then what was different this time from every weekend? While reading the book, for the first time, my mind questioned me one thing. That question was, “What is the meaning of my life?” and the second question was, “What do I actually want to achieve at the end of this life span?”

Why am I in this frame of family, friends, relatives, work, religion, and country? I am in search of the answers, and so I do not want to forget these questions till I get my answers…

I believe, everyone should ask these questions to himself or herself, do not consider your desires for the answers and then search the meaning of your life? Set the at least one life time goal, and move towards that direction.

I thought a lot on whether should I publish this blog or shall I search and if, I really find this question meaningful, then only I shall post it. But finally I decided to post to just share my thought. Who knows, someone of you might find this meaningful and get your goal of life and start searching answers!

It will definitely be interesting, deep and really meaningful!
So here I move in search of answers and may be to find "Meaning Of Life"!
